Emmet Kitchen &Bath is owned and operated by Stephen Hayes, with over 30 years experience remodeling kitchens and bathrooms.
Steve is a Northern Michigan native. If you had Steve’s father, Hubert Hayes, DDS retired, for your dentist then you may have seen young Steve running around when you visited the office, which was located in half the downstairs of the old family house on Mitchell Street.
“I learned so much from my father. He is truly the best role model and inspiration for how to run a business. If a patient called him after hours with a toothache, even 10:00 at night, he would turn on the porch light and tell us kids to watch out the window for a patient who would be coming in. Then he would go next door to the office and you could hear the drill running. What dentist would do that today?
He always treated everyone fairly, never suggesting anything not necessary or in the best interest of the patient. This is truly my motto.”
Steve has been involved in the kitchen and bath industry since the early 1980's when he began working for the Mt. Pleasant, Michigan company, House of Cabinets.
“When I first began, I was very fortunate to be able to work for two years in Mount Pleasant for the House of Cabinets. The partners were descended from German immigrants and survivors of the Great Depression. Their craftsmanship skills and professional integrity were always uncompromising.”
In 1987 Steve and his family moved to the Washington
DC area where Steve took a job as a lead carpenter with Courthouse Kitchens and Baths
in Fairfax County, VA. After a two year steady stream of installing
custom kitchens, he started his own remodeling company serving that area.
After five long years in Virginia Steve with his wife Joni and their five children made the decision to relocate their family back into the wonderful Petoskey area where Steve Hayes Remodeling and Tile has operated since 1993.
